Yvonne Bowman

Picture
Yvonne is an undergrad planning to major in neuroscience at NYU. Her inspiration is Dr. Oliver Sacks, whose books made her want to help spread the word about science in any form. As one who has been more or less obsessed with science for many, many years, she's always ready to do anything that has to do with it. When not busy with classes or Doppler Effect, she can usually be found reading a webcomic, playing video games, or playing oboe.

The Ebola outbreak has been raging for months and has claimed thousands of lives. But what exactly does it do to the human body? Yvonne Bowman spoke to a few experts to find out. Producer Katherine Foley spoke to Emily Zhang. Emily helps run a company called Biomeme, a startup that uses a smartphone app to detect disease faster than ever. Even though Biomeme was originally designed to detect sexually transmitted diseases, it could be integral in detecting Ebola even more quickly
